Bohemian garnet jewelry dates back to the 19th century. During this time, garnets were one of the most popular types of stones used in jewelry production. Bohemian garnets, originally mined in the region of Bohemia in?the modern day Czech Republic,?in particular were renowned for their striking deep red hue. The garnets were often placed close together in an effort to produce a more pronounced color and brightness than when they were set singularly.?
An absolutely gorgeous?Bohemian garnet?locket from the Victorian (ca1880) era!?Crafted in rosy 9k gold, this beautiful heart-shaped locket, which is particularly large in size, is encrusted with rose cut?garnets on the front in three rows surrounding a large heart shaped cabochon in the center. The vibrant garnets rest in a shared prong setting and are all similar in size,?beautifully faceted, and display lush hues of deep reds which look fiery when they catch the light. On the back of the hinged locket is a glass covered space,?perfect for storing?a special photograph or keepsake inside.
